Appwrite raises $27M in Series A Round led by Tiger Global

Appwrite is an open source backend-as-a-service (BaaS) platform that ultimately enables organizations to focus on the front end. The funding round was led by Tiger Global Management, and had participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Ibex Investors, Flybridge Capital Partners, and Seedcamp.

The startup was founded in the year 2019 and raised a $10 million across two seed funding rounds. The self-hosted BaaS of Appwrite provides the developers with all the APIs that are required to power the underlying infrastructure of their applications. It includes security, user authentication, API management, databases for storing and querying data, file storage, privacy and much more.

Appwrite has always been an open source project with a primary focus on building tools that would create value for developers and enable them to innovate with efficiency. Eldad Fux, the founder, and CEO of Appwrite said that with the company’s tool, developers get everything they need to build their products with a consistent experience. It can turn the development process into an enjoyable as well as a faster process. The startup is looking forward to launching a new hosted cloud.

The company has recorded a total raise of $27 million and is well-financed to accelerate the development of its cloud product. They even are looking to double down on their recent growth. The open source community of Appwrite has grown from 40,000 to 150,000 developers since last fall. The capital will also be invested in the growth of the internal team and to build a platform with new features and functionalities that are yet-to-be-determined.
